Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta believes the Spanish club is unfairly treating coach Ernesto Valverde.
Barça has contacted Xavi Hernández, a former teammate of Iniesta, to replace the pressed Valverde, whom the Catalan club would want to dismiss after the defeat against Atlético de Madrid in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup last week, as reported by Spanish media.
Barcelona is first in La Liga and has won two consecutive league titles under the direction of the Spanish coach, but there is concern about the level of performance and style of the team.
The forms or how it is being done is a bit ugly. There always has to be that respect for the coach you have. The forms are the ones that hurt the most, the situation of the coach is very weakened, ”Iniesta, Vissel Kobe midfielder, told Onda Cero radio station on Monday.
He also referred to the ability of Xavi or the former player of the Catalan team Ronald Koeman to lead a team like Barça: “The two are trained for it, they know this and everyone will know if it is the time or not.”
In Spain, the press suggests that Xavi, coach of Al-Sadd, who played with Iniesta at Barça in his most successful time, in which he won four Champions League titles among numerous other trophies, will not accept the job until the end of this campaign and that the club is looking for a short-term replacement.
