Facebook Makes Tools for Migrating Photos to Google Photos
Facebook released a new feature that allows users to move photos from Facebook directly to Google Photos.
This tool is part of the Data Transfer Project, with participants including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Twitter. For now, Facebook recognizes that the feature is only available for Photos, but later it will be available also for other services.
“For almost a decade we have allowed people to download their information from Facebook. The photo transfer tool that we started to spread today is based on code developed through our participation in the open-source Data Transfer Project,” said Steve Satterfield, Facebook’s director of privacy and public policy .
This new feature will be useful for users who do not automatically backup their photos to Photos. Because if the backup is done automatically, chances are that the photos on Facebook are already in Photos.
However, this feature will also be useful for people who have not been using Photos, so a lot of old photos on Facebook are not yet stored in Google’s photo service.
For now, the feature is only available in Ireland, and Facebook promises that the feature will be available worldwide in the first half of 2020.
